Pink Floyd Take On EMI Over Online Royalties
Pink Floyd is moving forward with a lawsuit against Recording giant EMI over the manner in which royalty payments are decided in the new, digital-friendly music world.
Band lawyer Robert Howe explained to the UK's High Court that Pink Floyd was disputing the method in which royalties for online sales are calculated.
Howe added that the band is also looking for a ruling on whether the corporation can sell tracks "unbundled from their original albums.
According to the attorney, Pink Floyd's contract prohibits the sale of songs "otherwise than in the original configuration of the Pink Floyd albums," though EMI asserts that the clause does not apply to the internet.
The legendary rock band first inked a deal with EMI in 1967, and went on to become one of its most bankable artists.
The case, which began on Tuesday (March 9th), is not expected to be resolved quickly.
